Sexy People Sound Better

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Admin on 09-08-2008

People with voices deemed sexy and attractive tend to have greater body symmetry upon close inspection, suggesting that what we hear in a person can greatly affect what we see in them.

“The sound of a person’s voice reveals a considerable amount of biological information,” said Susan Hughes, an evolutionary psychologist from Albright College in Reading, Pa. “It can reflect the mate value of a person.”

Hughes, whose new study is detailed in the June 2008 edition of the Journal of Nonverbal Behavior, cautions that an attractive voice does not necessarily indicate that this person has an attractive face.

A symmetric body is genetically sound, scientists say, and in evolutionary terms, in the wild, it can be an important factor when selecting a mate. But sometimes changes during prenatal development can slightly skew this balance. For instance, the length ratio between index and ring fingers, known as the digit ratio, is fixed by the first trimester, a time that corresponds with vocal cord and larynx development. If the hormone surge that affects vocal development also affects finger growth, there should be a connection between an individual’s voice and digit ratio.

Hughes could not demonstrate a connection between voice attractiveness and digit ratio in her previous work, possibly due to vocal changes that occur during puberty. So in the new study, about 100 individuals listened to previously recorded voices and independently rated them on nine traits important during mate selection: approachability, dominance, healthiness, honesty, intelligence, likelihood to get dates, maturity, sexiness and warmth.

Study participants generally agreed on what made a voice attractive. But when Hughes used a spectrogram to analyze these voice ratings according to different acoustic properties such as pitch, intensity, jitter and shimmer, she could not find a common feature that made these voices seem attractive.

This indicates our perceptual system may be more advanced than expected.

“We can agree on what’s an attractive voice yet I can’t capture it with a computer,” Hughes told LiveScience.said.

8 Rules in Telling your Stories in your Blog

8 Rules in Telling your Stories in your Blog
By Jennifer Fulwiler

1. Start with a bang

Writing a story for the web is different than writing a story for print publication. Web readers have much shorter attention spans and will quickly move on if a post doesn’t immediately capture their attention. Before you go into any background details or set the stage for your story, begin with one or two bold, concise sentences that will grab readers’ attention.

2. Identify your take

Sometimes when we sit down to write stories or personal reflections we forget to pause for a moment and ask, “What’s my take?” In other words, why are you writing this? Take a moment to identify no more than two or three salient aspects of your story that you want to make sure readers understand, and structure your piece around those elements.

3. Highlight dialogue

Dialogue is a great way to break up your story and quickly convey the personalities of the people involved — even if the “dialogue” is simply something you thought to yourself. Include snippets of conversation whenever possible, and be sure to start a new paragraph whenever you switch speakers.

4. Include section headers

If your story is more than a few hundred words long and there’s no way to condense it, break it into mini “chapters” by including bolded titles for each main section of the story.

5. Use breakout sentences

“Breakout sentences” — single-sentence paragraphs — are a great way to make your story more scannable. Identify one or two turning points in your tale, and write an attention-getting sentence as its own paragraph to mark this point in the story. (For example: “When I saw the test results, I knew my life would never be the same again.”)

6. Vary paragraph size

A long story that consists of paragraphs of similar sizes looks monotonous. Don’t be afraid to have an occasional long paragraph if you need it to complete an idea, but try to follow it with a shorter paragraph or perhaps a breakout sentence (see #5).

7. Go for authenticity over perfection

Keep in mind that this is not a term paper and you’re not writing for your high school English teacher. Your readers are more likely to read an imperfect story that is exploding with sincerity and energy than a perfect story that dryly conforms to all the proper rules of grammar and sentence structure. Many of the most popular diary-style bloggers interject their tales of everyday life with things like all-caps exclamations and incomplete sentences, and their readers love it.

8. Cut, then cut some more

Re-read your story and edit ruthlessly. Think about your take that you identified in #2, and with every single sentence ask yourself: “Would it detract from the piece or weaken my point if I cut this?” If the answer is no, delete it.

As the rapidly increasing popularity of personal, slice-of-life blogs shows, there is a place in the blog world for longer posts that convey personal stories. By following these eight rules you’ll find that you have no trouble gaining a readership of people who are delighted to hear your tales.

Juseeleno Predictions

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Admin on 03-07-2008

This information was shared by my  filipino teacher so with my curiosity I searched about his predictions in the net. .  :)

Mr. Juseleeno Nobulega DaRoose whose predictions grace and dominate many of the chinese and vietnamese blogsites. Very little is known about him except that he is born in 1960 (reportedly still alive in 2008), and is a Brazilian.

He has made many predictions, and MOST have come to pass, including Princess Diana’s death by car accident (which is instigated by someone near her and will probably unfortunately be written off as a car accident), 911 and the 2004 Indonesian tsunami.

He sees the future in his dreams, and has an average of 3 to 9 such predictions per day. When he wakes up, he will write them down, and send warnings to those concerned. If it concerns only a normal individual, he will write a letter to warn him/her.

If it is a famous person(celebrity, politician etc.), or matters concerning the public, he will not only send it to the individual himself/herself, but also related agencies, government, and media. He urged the media to publicise these predictions, but the reply always went along the lines of rejection for fear of arousing public panic.

The following are a few of his predictions:

2008, July: There will be an earthquake in Japan, which will cause a tsunami of 30 plus metres high to occur as well.

2008, 18th September: An earthquake with magnitude of approximately 9.1 will rock China , simultaneously causing a tsunami of more than 30 metres to occur, resulting in the deaths of more than 1 million people. Although this huge earthquake will happen after the Olympics have ended, there will be a series of relatively smaller earthquakes occurring in China before the huge earthquake. The China government, which is more concerned with the success of the Olympics, will most likely neglect to employ appropriate cautionary measures, thus the high casualty rate. If the China government does not publicise the occurrence of these minor earthquakes and evacuate people, the number of deaths will be as predicted.

2008, 17th December: terrorist attack in America

2010: The temperatures in some countries of Africa could be as high as 58 degrees Celsius, and there will be a serious shortage of water.

2010, 15th June: The New York Stock Exchange market will fail, causing an international financial crisis.

2011: The research on the treatment of some cancers will be completed, but a new life-threatening virus will appear. People who are infected will die after only approx. 4 hours of coming into contact with the virus.

2013, 1st – 25th November: Research on treatment of cancers, except for brain tumors, will be completed. An earthquake, caused by volcanic eruptions, will happen on Bahama Island of the Canary Islands. A gigantic tsunami of roughly 150 metres will result. America mainlands, Brazil etc. will be affected, with the tsunami pushing into the land as far as 15 to 20 kilometres. Before the occurrence of this gigantic tsunami, the sea/ocean water levels will sink by about 6 metres, and large flocks of birds will start to migrate.

2014: A small planet that has been gradually closing in on Earth might eventually collide with Earth, and this collision, if come to pass, will affect the survival of humans as a whole.

2015: By the mid of November, the average temperature of Earth could be as high as 59 degrees Celsius. Many people will die from the overheat, and international confusion and terror ensues.

2016, April: A huge typhoon will invade China, causing massive damage. The 43rd USA president, George Walker Bush, will enter the hospital, and faces a life or death situation.

2026, July: A super earthquake will occur in Sans Francisco, and it will be named “The Big One”. Huge damage to surrounding areas. Many volcanoes will re-activate, and the height of resulting tsunami will be more than 150 metres.

Mr. Juseleeno made known his predictions in hopes that people will take heed of his warnings, so that these disasters may be avoided. He hopes there will be a major change in the thinking of people’s mindsets in the time period 2007 – 2008.

One factor will be the environmental issue of global warming, which is more serious than what some meteorologists assume.

Honestly, I don’t know If I’m going to believe him because He is not a GOD to tell what will going to happen in the feature GOD only knows what will happen.

Ang Galing Ni Bebeng

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by Admin on 17-05-2008

Nagmamahal,
Bebeng
